All courses have the initial goals of learning or relearning the REAL purpose of CPR and the TRUTH about the prevention and the minute chances of further injury, future litigation and disease transmission.

Heartsaver-AED (HS-AED) Provider CPR Courses
This course is designed for those who are initial or renewal students, who are or will be professional rescuers OR would be referred to as lay rescuers, and who need or want to know CPR/AED. Goals include learning or relearning adult/child CPR/AED, adult/child choking treatment and adult/child barrier device use. Additional content can include infant CPR, infant choking treatment and infant barrier device use.
Course time is 3-5 hours.

Practical Reminders

  1. Adult CPR is 5 cycles of 30:2 for one-rescuer OR until EMS arrive.

  2. Pediatric is 5 cycles of 30:2 for one-rescuer and 5 cycles of 15:2 for two-rescuer.

  3. Adult is puberty and older, Child is 1 year old to puberty and Infant is less than 1 year.

  4. Proceed with A B C then work backward as necessary by going C B A.

  5. For an unconscious person, any airway obstruction will be determined upon the initial ventilation attempts.

  6. For a person with an airway obstruction, it is better to get AIR IN than it is to get any OBSTRUCTION OUT.

  7. Cease CPR when Signs of Circulation return, EMS or MD arrives, Advance Directives (DNR) are found.

  8. Scene Safety is compromised or Exhaustion of Rescuer(s) begins.

  9. When doing any Rescue Breathing, continue to maintain the airway and monitor the signs or circulation.

  10. When using the Recovery Position to maintain airway, continue to monitor the signs of circulation.

  11. AEDs are not to be used on anyone <1 year old.  Remove glasses, jewelry and medication patches.

  12. Shave and dry chest as necessary. Place pads next to any suspected metal chest implants.

  13. Turn on AED first.  If a witnessed arrest, place pads as soon as possible and follow voice prompts.

  14. If an un-witnessed arrest, do two minutes of CPR first, apply pads and then follow voice prompts.

  15. During and analysis of rhythm or shock or victim, repeat prompts and make certain EVERYONE is clear!
